More than a decade ago, a
team of American dermatologists, engineers, and
executives including Robert Grove, Ph.D., Tobin

Weckwerth, Ph.D., developed the first diode
laser for hair removal utilized by physicians in
their medical practices. The laser they
developed in 1993, called the LightSheer™, went

individuals founded SpectraGenics, Inc. and
assembled an internationally renowned team of
experts in the field of aesthetic laser
technologies to begin the development of its
flagship TRIA device .
